Marketing Tip of the Week: Three Naming Tips for a Successful Rebrand or Startup [Video]

MTOTW #47: Lately we’ve been brainstorming names for clients who are either starting new ventures or branching out into new markets. If you’re considering a brand switch, here are a few naming tips:

  • First, choose a name with longevity. Last names work well because they’re simple and avoid trendy naming conventions. But if you’re planning to sell your business, consider carefully before putting your name on it.
  • Second, choose a name you can claim legally. The United States Patent and Trademark Office has a searchable database online. While you’re at it, check for domain availability, and don’t settle for less than a dot-com.
  • Finally, consider your buyer personas. Make sure the name you choose creates positive feelings among your intended audience, and if you’re considering a made-up name for your business, take the root meanings into consideration as well.

Each week, we share a quick tip for marketing success on our YouTube and Instagram channels. Follow us there or subscribe to our blog updates so you never miss a tip.
